Monthly letter from Carol Cotton (Church and Community Pastoral Worker) [ March]

Dear Friends,

As I write this I am conscious that Lent is upon us and as well as taking part in ‘Praying for People in Your Street’, I am exploring some of the disciplines of the Christian Faith. Some time ago I read the book ’Celebration of Discipline’ by Richard Foster, where he explores the Inward Disciplines of Prayer, Fasting, Meditation and Study. the Outward Disciplines of Simplicity, Solitude, Submission and Service and the Corporate Disciplines of Confession, Worship, Guidance and Celebration. I remember it being one of those transforming moments in my life , but I need to re-visit it again, I think. I would highly recommend this book to you, it is not a difficult read but it could be one of those books that makes a real difference in your life.

Can I point you to the box about our Quiet Day at Foxhill on Saturday 14th April, a real opportunity to spend some quiet time with God, there will be some silence but also some interaction The day will be led by Edel McClean, who is from the Learning Network and her theme will be ’Bread & Butter Prayer’. Don’t forget transport is available; let me know if you would like to book.

It would not be "my letter" without a quote for you, which fits so well with Lent and our Quiet Day:

“We too are called to withdraw at certain intervals into deeper silence and aloneness with God, together as a community as well as personally; to be alone with Him — not with our books, thoughts, and memories but completely stripped of everything — to dwell lovingly in His presence, silent, empty, expectant, and motionless. We cannot find God in noise or agitation.” (Mother Teresa).

You will also notice, in the Magazine, a box about our trip to Oberammergau in 2020. If you are at all interested in having more details about this trip, please do let me know. The dates we are looking at are Thursday May 21st - Thursday May 28th. Pricing and an itinerary should be available by the end of this month. It does seems a long way away but we do need to book in advance.

Cameo continues to go well — we should soon have some invitation cards for you to give out to your friends and family. It is such a lovely afternoon of inspirational worship, music, good company and a lovely afternoon tea. It is such a good service to invite any of your friends and family too, so come along and give it a try.

The Co-ordinating of our furniture store has now been taken on by Peter and Dorothy Richards, so if you need to contact them the phone number is 01565 634842, or e-mail Peter Richards.

On 6th March, at 7.30pm in Room 4 we will be having a Pastoral Meeting which is open to all Pastoral Visitors and Home Group Leaders. Please do come along if you can.

Just to let you know that on March 28th I will be having an operation on my hand, so will be off work for a few weeks. If you have any concerns speak to Amanda or Rob.

Whatever you do through Lent, I pray that you will experience a real closeness in your relationship with God.

Happy Easter
